The Shell Universe › Architecture
Shelter
Protection that precedes structure — the act before the architecture.
Shelter is the primal form of the Shell: the immediate act of covering, protecting, containing. Where Safe Rooms are engineered, shelter is instinctive. The novel traces the evolution from shelter to safe room to Grey Protocol — and asks what is gained and lost in that formalization.
Why it matters
Shelter provides the human baseline against which all of the novel's engineered systems are measured.
