The Shell Universe › Architecture
Safe Room
A protected space designed to preserve people long enough for rights and memory to matter again.
A safe room is infrastructure, not comfort. It is built with a specific purpose: to hold. Not forever. Long enough. The difference between a safe room and a prison is the direction of the lock and the intention of the builder.
Why it matters
Safe rooms are the physical instantiation of the Shell's core principle. They appear throughout the novel as literal spaces and as metaphors for any protective system.
